series of planned short films, <Seizing moments> puts the viewer in the
center of the action, so to speak. With cameras facing each direction, I walked
down the busy streets of Seoul to film my surroundings. In the installation,
these videos will be projected onto four walls of a room and at various points,
all goes quiet and the action slows to add to the viewers awareness of the monotony
of everyday living amid the busily flowing but impersonal relationships with
the people all around, to seize the moment, creating a perceptive sense of
isolation among many........

The sense of touch is one of the most tangible experiences we can have with our surroundings. If we doubt something, we must touch it, and once touched, it becomes real to us. As such, <Finger Prints> documents the fingerprints I leave on objects throughout the day to prove my existence within my immediate surroundings – the touch here being that of the objects touching me and verifying my reality.
Recording my life series is regard to monotony of everyday life and whether or not I “exist” in life. This concept developed itself from the feelings I have from living in a large metropolis like Seoul. I often question whether I truly exist in this teeming metropolis because every day seems to be a monotonous carbon copy of the last one. Perhaps, it is the feeling of gesellschaft that we often feel when living among so many people and have many impersonal interactions in a big city. Questioning my existence and the monotony of life brought about another concept – forgetting. I forg.......

2010 / 2’03”/ Single channel video Grounded in the contextual backdrop of the song “Que Sera Sera,” this video shadows the life of two generations of women in Korea. The seemingly soft reminiscence of the sequence of pictures from mother’s childhood to motherhood and on to the daughter’s life, is followed by an intense expression of disquiet felt by the young daughter. Her anxiety for the future is based in her identification with mother and resistance to the common destiny of women in Korea. The final scene turns suddenly cynical and barren to convey the ultimat.......

Absorbed with contemplations of the body as it associated inner being with gender, my early work was focused on the tension between the expression of sexuality and the inhibited nature of Korean society. Projects depicted the feelings of emptiness that modern women experience and expressed the emotional struggles to succeed as a woman in Korean society.

During my studies at Seoul National University’s department of Fine Arts, the themes of my artwork have changed but the core concept behind all of them has remained the same. My work has always focused on the essence of my being and I found that my body is inevitable to think about expressing essence of my being. When I was an undergraduate, my early work associated my being with my gender and focused on the tension between sexuality and Korean society.
